Steller's Jay

One of the loudest birds you'll come across, the Steller’s Jay is sometimes known to mimic hawks. Recognizable by their striking blue feathers and bold crest, they are common in coniferous forests but often venture into parks and backyards. They build nests from mud and store food in various locations. Unlike the more meticulous Scrub-jay, Steller’s Jays are less likely to remember all their hiding spots, leaving some of their cached food to grow into new plants. Opportunistic and curious, Steller’s Jays are as bold in behavior as they are in appearance.
